2005 Evidence - Santa Barbara County, Red Wine

The 2005 Evidence is our classic Bordeaux style blend. As with the previous vintage, we were able to use four of the Bordeaux grapes in the blend. This year, for the first time, Merlot became the predominant varietal in the composition due to the outstanding quality from Alisos Vineyard. The power and depth of flavor of this wine made it clear to me that it deserved to be the core of this year’s Evidence blend. The long growing season of 2005 also allowed for full maturity of the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, which contributed to the riper style of this bottling.

The wine has a dark ruby color. The aromas are a blend of cherries and raspberries with a hint of white chocolate. On the palate the wine is medium to full bodied, with rich berry flavors and a silky texture. The softer tannins of this vintage give this wine, even at this early stage, a smoother texture. This may be the most hedonistic version of Evidence we have produced, which should appeal to many fans of the bigger Northern California Bordeaux-style reds.

Enjoy with prime rib, lamb and other savory dishes.
